  • Good lord! we are experiencing climate change, the sky is falling down on us?????

These days my friends from elite business schools of the world are perplexed by the thought of impact that climate change can have on our living conditions, especially after companies have decided to give bonuses to their top executives based on the green performance of their companies. Now a days I hear different conversations in the corporate parties, the toast is dedicated to the new green initiatives, the new CEO prefers paperless work, the employees are dedicating few hours every month for the CSR activities.

Even special awards are being given for most Eco friendly company, the guest of honor gives his speech loathing the mankind about the resource consumption, and the failure to protect the environment from such irreversible change. Only an hour ago, he used his SUV to travel across the city, even though the city has Metro service, he uses intercontinental flights every month but he still sees other factors and not his individual contribution to the climate change.

I never see individual ownership towards the process of the climate change. Only we talk about the green capital funds, and green business, but why do we forget that green supports life force on earth, it is way living not just profit making business unit.

  • Man loves being intoxicated

There is something about intoxication that cannot be ruled out by the everyone who reads this. We love being intoxicated with things, drinks and thoughts. So in this mental condition of being carried in too many games of politics, consumerism, materialistic endeavors, geopolitical resource control, the idea of going green and turning businesses and systems into the green processes gives a hint of commercialization of the resources that nature provided to the human species free of cost to live might now be charged as per your requirement. The color green has become more important because the color of money supports it and this color of money also supports the intoxication.

Thus in short, if today intoxication towards green has started, it is because the fear of losing the good living conditions and the cost that we will have to pay for not being green. So are we going green, or we are saving our BUCKS. I think because it supports biggest intoxication of man which is money, going green seems vital and important.

  • I am green in thought but not in action.

I am surprised how this works, the whole bubble of going green. It also creates a confusion in my mind, am I green in thought or in action or I am just manifesting a part of my social identity that matches with the “Going Green” syndrome. I am still not sure if being green is just a process conversion at the company level, or reducing your carbon emissions, or just devising the policies which cannot be implemented due to the system not being in place or the system being in the place and policies not made, this chaos in the world surprises me to admit that man has yet to evolve as a species, as an intelligent being with understanding of his impact of living on the planet and on the fellow beings.

The problem of going green is that even though we would like to talk about it, the ownership of going green at individual level is missing, it is like an oath that we take and never do anything about it. It is about this system of mad profit making, resource consumption and need for dematerialize.

Such is the condition of this human species that the level of awareness required to understand its relation with the planet and system is not existing. It is hollow inside and extravagant outside.

People often talk that common man will suffer from global warming, for me common man is not the man who has access to blogging, or drives a air conditioned car, common man lives with the electricity cuts, uses public transportation, buys what he requires, lives a simple life, now is he more green or us?

I am forced to ask this question “I am green in thought, but not in action”
